The Flax Project at Snapdragons, Plymouth

Prior to the formation of the CIC, in June 2021 we planted some flax in the grounds of Snapdragons, Victoria Park in Plymouth. We created a flax circle echoing the Richard Deacon sculpture, Moor, that towers over the site. With the help of local volunteers we harvested this flax in September and it is now drying on site. In November we launch a programme of workshops with Snapdragons and the Village Hub teaching the process of turning flax fibre into linen. The aim is to connect participants to nature, take them on journey from field to fabric, learn the crafts of flax and linen, and experience the benefits of nature and creativity for mental and physical health.
